INSTRUCTIONS

Project 1 - Animated Infographic Poster

For this assignment, we are required to analyse the “delivery mechanism’s” that affect the outcomes of infographics.  the aim of this presentation is too look at what makes an infographic presentation work or does not work.

Our first step was to find 1 infographic poster from the internet as a reference. After consulting with Mr Shamsul as to which poster I should use, I came across this infographic poster.

Our second step is to redesign the poster into an A4 size. For this I extracted the information from the poster as well as went on the internet to look for good infographic posters as inspiration and started sketching on my iPad with the Procreate App. Here are the information and my sketches:

After extracting all the information from the poster, I began sketching while trying to figure out a layout that suits best with the information. As I wanted to incorporate both a timeline and graph, these are the layout I came up with.

After sketching, I proceeded to find a color palette that I thought would match with the theme of my poster.

Then, I began to design my infographic poster on Adobe Illustrator with the sketches as my reference. As I was working on it, I realised that the layout was not working, so instead, i decide to use a pie chart to show the growth of each social media and put it right beside the timeline.

After being halfway done, I showed my work to Mr Shamsul and he pointed out that the poster looked unprofessional. Mr Shamsul told me to look at simple infographic poster design on the internet instead and use that as reference. Due to the feedback, I scrapped my poster and worked on a different type of layout.

After going through a few simple infographic poster designs, I wanted to change the color palette of my poster and then I began to create my own infographic on Adobe Illustrator. Since the initial poster was timeline based, I decided to stick with that but change the timeline from a circle, to a snake timeline design.

After finalising my infographic poster, I exported my artwork as .psd and worked on the animation on Adobe Photoshop.

Reflection:
Overall, I think this assignment was interesting to work on as it involved redesigning and existing infographic poster which I have never done before. However, I did have some difficulties in designing this poster as I was not sure how to simplify the information from the initial poster. But, after consulting with my lecturer and developing a further understanding on this matter, it became somewhat easier and I think the outcome turned out to be better that what I initially designed.
