EXERCISES

Exercise 1: Quantifiable Information (10%)

For our first exercise, we did it during tutorial and practical class. We were tasked to gather a set of objects and separate it into category such as color, shape, pattern, and other quantifiable factor. The object that I have chosen to work with is Bricks, which is similar to Legos. With the chosen object, we were required to quantify it and arrange them into a presentable layout or chart. It was also noted that we had to arrange the objects with relevant indicators written out with pens to help you to visualize the quantity and data.

Our first step was to arrange the object according to the picture as reference -

After sorting out my objects, I felt like I was working on too many blocks as it had a total of 686 pieces. Therefore, I scrapped this and decided to lessen the quantity randomly into a total of 50 pieces only.

After arranging them accordingly, I searched up for references on how to visualize data. I saw a lot of options and one of them was by using a circle shape. So I took a mug and arranged them from most to least numbers of shape while transitioning the colours from darkest to lightest.

Exercise 2: L.A.T.C.H Infographic Poster (10%)

For our second exercise, we are required to create an infographic poster using at least 4 of the L.A.T.C.H principles. Initially, I wanted to create a poster of Disney Princesses. However, after further brainstorming, I decided to talk about Harry Potter.

Location: Hogwarts School, Chamber of Secrets, Whomping Willow, Triwizard Arena, Ministry of Magic, Astronomy Tower, Forest of Dean, The Great Hall.

Timeline: 2001-2011

Category: The Golden Trio

Hierarchy: Most powerful wizards

Visual References

My main focus was on the timeline of Harry Potter with a map design to showcase the locations of each event, so then I started of by looking at multiple existing infographic posters on the internet that focuses mainly on the timeline.

After many discussions with Mr Shamsul, he said to make the design like 'Marauder's Map'. Then, I started researching on Marauder's art style and map design.

Sketches & Planning

After doing my research, I started doing rough sketches of my layouts on an iPad.

Digitisation

After deciding which layout I should go for, I then started my digitisation on both Adobe Illustrator and Canva.

Since the art style that I wanted to go for is more of an ancient style, I looked up for a background that replicates an old paper where it is somewhat yellow-ish stained tone. After that, I used a downloadable font on the internet to use for the title 'Harry Potter".

I then thought the harry potter title was too big, therefore I made it smaller. And this is what I came up with.

Then, I drew the locations of each main event that happened in Harry Potter. For this, I used Procreate.
