LECTURES

Week 1

For our first week, Mr Martin briefed us on the module as well as what to expect in it. For our first project, he told us that we are required to do audio dubbing and sound shaping exercise by watching the movie 'My name is LALIN' and 'Everything everywhere all at once'

Week 2

As for our second week, we learnt about cinematography as well as the appropriate shots for different purposes. We were also taught about the depth of field, screen direction and screen direction. After that, we had to do an exercise in class with our classmates.

EXERCISE 1

For our first class, we were introduced to Adobe Premiere Pro. Mr Martin then gave us a file of cut up Doritos Ad as well as Mint Ad that are in mismatched orders and we would have to rearrange them accordingly in Adobe Premiere Pro.

EXERCISE 2

For our second exercise, we are required to do an exercise in class. Which, I was absent so I was not able to complete exercise 2.

EXERCISE 3

A. My name is LALIN

1. Which part is act 1, act 2, act 3 respectively? Describe each act with ONE paragraph only.
- Act 1 in 'My name is LALIN' shows a protagonist who is struggling with her confidence, hiding herself behind the mask so that no one has to see her real face. Furthermore, it shows her struggles in adapting to a new town that she just moved to. In act 2, she struggles in finding her place in the community as well as having conflicts with other characters as she started developing feelings for one of them. In act 3, Lalin, the protagonist chooses to confront her main hardships, leading to a turning point in the movie. Her choices brought closure to the story and shows her personal growth.

2. What is the inciting incident in the movie?
- In 'My name is LALIN', I would say the inciting incident in the movie would likely be the moment when the protagonist, Lalin, moved to a new town. By moving to a new town, it disrupts her familiarity in the environment as well as her routine. Lalin's arrival in the new town marks the start of her journey in discovering herself and having personal growth.

3. What is the midpoint scene in the movie?
- The midpoint scene in this movie would be when Lalin met with a guy named Nut which they both ended up developing feelings for one another. Where Lalin then faces a conflict with herself about showing her true face. She gains clarity about her identity and decided to face the reality.

4. What is the Climax scene in the movie?
- I think the climax scene of this movie is when Lalin read the novel written by Nut. She finally realised that the Santa she met in the classroom was actually the same guy that she had feelings for. She came into realisation that Nut would love her no matter how she looks and that Nut once struggled with the same thing that Lalin did.

5.What is the theme of the movie?
- The film explores how the protagonist, Lalin, grasped herself into a new environment. Moving to a new town can challenge one's identity as they navigate unfamiliar surroundings and encounter different people and cultures. Lalin's journey likely involves a search for belonging and acceptance in her new community. While she may struggle to find his place and form connections with others, highlighting the universal desire to feel accepted and valued. The film too explored the theme of adaptation and resilience as Lalin adjusts to her new life. Moving to a new town represents a significant change, and Lalin must learn to adapt to her new circumstances, overcome obstacles, and grow as an individual in the process.

B. Everything, Everywhere All at Once

1. Which part is act 1, act 2, act 3 respectively? Describe each act with ONE paragraph only.
- For act 1, it starts with Evelyn Wang who is introduced as a tired laundromat owner that has family problems and an IRS audit. All of a sudden, her husband from another universe told her that she needed to save an evil version of their daughter named Joy who they call Jobu Tupaki. Act 2 begins when Evelyn tried to jump between  universes to see her life in the others. She then faced surreal challenges to try and stop her daughter. But, as the story goes on, Evelyn realized that her daughter was just depressed and that made Evelyn want to become a better mother to her daughter. For the final act (Act 3), Evelyn faced her daughter, however, instead of fighting, Evelyn tried to calm her and understand her point of view. It then ended with them making up and Evelyn reconnecting with her family while finding new purposes in life.

2. What is the inciting incident in the movie?
- The inciting incident in this movie is when Waymond, Evelyn's husband, told Evelyn that he is from another universe.  Waymond then told Evelyn that she is the key to saving the multiverse. This incident happened when they were in the IRS building, and Waymond went back and forth with his alternate persona, trying to explain and show Evelyn the existence of the other universes while telling her about the threat of her own daughter, Joy, also known as Jobu Tupaki.

3. What is the midpoint scene in the movie?
- The midpoint scene started when Evelyn confronted her daughter for the first time and realizing how complicated and serious the situations are. This is the moment where she realised what she was against with, and started fighting seriously to save the multiverse and her daughter.

4. What is the Climax scene in the movie?
- The climax is when Evelyn faced Jobu Tupaki once again for a final showdown. But instead of being physical and using force, Evelyn reached out with love and caring to show her daughter that Evelyn really wanted to help. They then reconciled brought peace into their relationship.

5.What is the theme of the movie?
- The theme of this movie is about the importance of love, empathy and connection in the face of chaos.  It shows that even when life is complicated and confusing, caring and accepting each other can bring peace and hope. The movie also emphasizes on the importance of being kind and compassionate to deal with life's challenges.
