Title of Design: Brain Dump
Designer's Name: Unga
Year: 2024
Size: 45x61cm
Medium: 7 colors silk screen print

3. Visual Analysis.

Phase 1: Observation.
This artwork was designed in a vertical format with the size of 45x61cm. The biggest, most noticeable feature on this poster is the large and black silhouette of a human head that is in the center. It is also seen inside the head of the silhouette is a pink brain squatting on what seems to be a toilet. Following that is a pipe that seems similar to a shape of a snake that is connected from the toilet, extending to the mouth, spraying small black dotted shapes. The typography is clean with "Pearl Jam" being the center of attention at the top with Japanese characters beside it. Furthermore, the other details such as venue, date and featured artists filling up the empty spaces at the sides. (126 words)

Phase 2: Analysis.
This design features a high level of
contrast due to the combination of the black silhouette and the pale cream background. Since the head is so enlarged, this poster design also features the emphasis design elements. These two design elements make the silhouette the main feature of the poster and immediately catches viewers' attention. There is also a sense of movement in this artwork which is the green pipe, making it seem like the dots are travelling from the head to the mouth seamlessly. (84 words)

Phase 3: Interpretation.
This design poster titled "Brain Dump" is an artwork created by the artist named Unga and is
for Pearl Jam’s 2024 show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The artist "Unga" confirmed that this artwork was to represent the idea that people sometimes say things without any filter. It is showed through how the brain is producing waste that goes directly to the mouth, symbolising negative or careless speech. Though this image is humorous, it actually communicates the message in a strong and memorable way. This artwork is definitely one of the least traditional concert posters which gives it a stronger visual impact. (101 words)

4. 3 Sketches

Sketch 1

This design concept shows someone thinking before they talk. The loading speech bubble represents thinking, while the light bulb shows intelligence. The wire connects the brain to the mouth, meaning thoughts are processed first.

Sketch 2

The design as a whole represents the feeling of being extremely angry. The half exposed brain with scribbles around it and steam coming out symbolises how ones head could be overwhelmed with thoughts and emotions. While the symbols coming out the mouth shows the anger that people sometimes impulsively let out.

Sketch 3

This design shows how a “pretty” or positive mind leads to kind speech. The flowers growing from the brain represent healthy thoughts, and the vines connecting to the mouth show those thoughts turning into pretty words. It’s inspired by the simple, symbolic style of Pearl Jam poster by Unga.
