INSTRUCTIONS

For task 3, we are required to produce a design inspired by the artwork we have chosen in previous tasks. We are told to incorporate design principles for our design as well as use appropriate medium/materials that can help us convey our visual message.

VISUAL REFERENCES (UNSDG: Climate Action)

For my first visual reference, I chose a polar bear holding a signage that conveys a message. Having this as my reference, it has inspired me to sketch a turtle holding a sign that conveys a message about water pollution. Furthermore, I would add garbage floating in the sea.

As for my second visual reference, it is a design based on the cover movie of Jaws. For my second sketch, I am planning to replace the shark as a turtle and change the plastic bottle to a straw, or a big plastic bag. Moreover, as you can see in the original cover, the word 'Jaws' is written on to it which has inspired me to change the word to 'straws' instead.

For my last visual reference, I have taken inspiration from the singer 'Nirvana' to produce a poster similar to this. However, the ocean will be filled with trash while the baby's head is covered with plastic. To add on, I'll be changing the writing into something that can help spread awareness on climate action.

FINAL OUTCOME

Title of Artwork:
STRAWS
Designed by: Nadhrah
Year: 2024
Medium: Poster

FEEDBACKS

Week 6
- Out of all the sketches, the sketch 3 looks the best as the rest looks too basic/simple
- The straws should be pointed more towards the baby so that it can be the main focus
- Choose a font that correlates more to ocean
- Instead of putting the texts outside of the border, remove the border and put the texts near the baby

FURTHER READINGS

The article that I have chosen to read is 'HUE, VALUE, SATURATION', recommended by Dr Jinchi. My overall take on this article is that it's all about these three big concepts: hue, value, and saturation. Hue is basically the basic color you see, like red, blue, or yellow. Then there's value, which is all about how light or dark a color is. And finally, saturation is how intense or vibrant a color appears.

The article goes into detail about how these elements work together to create different effects in art and it's been super helpful for me in understanding how to mix and use colors effectively in my own work.
